In Cameroon, the BEPC (Brevet d'Etudes du Premier Cycle) is a diploma awarded to students who successfully pass their exams at the end of the first cycle of secondary education. The BEPC is the equivalent of the Brevet diploma in other French-speaking countries. Obtaining the BEPC is generally required to access the second cycle of secondary education, which includes the classes of Secondary, First and Secondary. Terminale. This is an important milestone in the educational journey of students in Cameroon, and it marks the end of their first stage in secondary education.
The equivalent of the BEPC (Brevet d’Etudes du Premier Cycle) among English speakers in Cameroon is the “General Certificate of Education Ordinary Level” (GCE O-Level). It is an exam that assesses the skills of students at the end of their first cycle of secondary education. Once successful, it allows students to move on to the next cycle of secondary education.
The probationary period in Cameroon is the exam which marks the end of the Première class (first year of the second cycle of secondary education). It is also known as the "Probatoire de l'Enseignement Secondaire" (PES).The probationary is a national exam that assesses students' skills in core subjects such as mathematics, science, languages, etc. Passing the probationary exam is often required to access the Terminale class and continue your studies in secondary education.
The baccalaureate in Cameroon is the final exam which marks the end of secondary education and allows students to access higher education. It is also known as the "Baccalaureate of Secondary Education" (BAC).The baccalaureate is a national examination that assesses students' knowledge and skills in different subjects, including specialized subjects chosen by students based on their interests and professional aspirations. Successful completion of the baccalaureate is often necessary for admission to universities and higher education establishments. In English, the baccalaureate could be translated as "Secondary School Leaving Certificate" or simply "High School Diploma".
